Take up a new hobby. Do you have time on your hands? What are your interests? Maybe a new hobby could fit for you. You can try out a hobby that already interests you, or jump in and explore something new that you’ve found. You may find that doing research to find a new activity that fits for you is a good idea. Consider how much time and money you are willing to put toward your new effort to ensure you don’t get in over your head on your new hobby. Look for a class, or find a hobbyist already working in an area of your interest. This may help you learn about a new hobby before you invest or try one. Join a new group! Join Check out a new club or civic group; visit a community center or a senior center near you. There are lots of ways to find a new group of people with interest in common with yours. Check local community centers or look online. Meetup is an online option that I’ve found that has lots of different groups for people with varied interests. See if any of the groups you find there are of interest to you.

Find an exercise class. Many communities have free or low cost exercise classes available. Exercise can improve your balance and flexibility, and in a class setting, you might make new friends who inspire you to new levels of activity.

Volunteer! There is a great need in every community for supportive volunteers. If you feel you’re your days have become “hum drum”, consider volunteering with a local non-profit organization. Many churches coordinate community support in various ways, hospitals often have volunteer opportunities, animal shelters need lots of support cleaning cages and walking or socializing new animals, Meals-On-Wheels is a volunteer program that provides meals to individuals in local communities and depends on volunteer support. Look around your community and see how you can find a place to give back.
